❤️ LOVE vs. CODEPENDENCY: When Does Love Become Losing Yourself? 🥀

"I love you, and I want you in my life."
"I need you, because without you, I don't know who I am."
At first glance, these two statements might sound similar. Both can come from deep emotional attachment. But there's an important difference between loving someone and becoming so emotionally dependent on them that we begin to lose ourselves.
🌹 WHAT DOES HEALTHY LOVE LOOK LIKE?
❤️ You choose to be with someone, but you still have an identity of your own.
❤️ You care about their happiness without believing that you are responsible for managing every emotion they experience.
❤️ You can say "no" without constantly fearing that they will abandon you.
❤️ You can disagree, set boundaries, and express your feelings without feeling that the relationship is about to collapse.
❤️ You enjoy being needed, but you don't need to be needed to feel worthy.
Healthy love doesn't mean you never feel insecure, jealous, or afraid. It means you can work through those feelings without losing your sense of self.
🥀 WHAT DOES CODEPENDENCY LOOK LIKE?
💔 Your entire mood depends on how another person treats you that day.
💔 You repeatedly sacrifice your own needs to prevent conflict, rejection, or abandonment.
💔 You feel responsible for fixing someone's problems, managing their emotions, or rescuing them from the consequences of their actions.
💔 You tolerate hurtful behaviour because the thought of losing the relationship feels unbearable.
💔 You struggle to recognise who you are outside the relationship.
💔 You believe that if you love them enough, sacrifice enough, or prove your worth enough, they will finally treat you the way you deserve.
Codependency isn't simply loving someone deeply. It's a potentially unhealthy relationship pattern in which your self-worth, boundaries, or emotional stability become excessively tied to another person.
❤️THE BIGGEST DIFFERENCE?
Love allows two people to stand beside each other.
Codependency can make one person feel they must hold the entire relationship together, even at the cost of their own well-being.

Love makes room for two individuals.
Codependency can slowly make one individual disappear.

And remember: needing reassurance, missing someone terribly, or making sacrifices doesn't automatically mean you're codependent. Relationships involve mutual dependence, and people can experience unhealthy patterns without being defined by them.

🌷 CAN WE LOVE SOMEONE WITHOUT LOSING OURSELVES?
Absolutely. We can care deeply and still have boundaries. We can support someone without becoming their saviour. We can choose a relationship without making it the sole source of our identity or happiness.
Because love shouldn't require us to abandon ourselves just to convince someone else to stay.
